Hundreds of sequins, yards and yards of tulle and nearly every color of dress imaginable fill up the showroom racks at Carolina Couture in downtown Columbia.
Carolina Couture relocated from Lexington to 929 Gervais St. this January and features countless designers of formal wear, prom and bridal attire. Owner Cynthia Stukes continues to operate her first store in Sandhills, which she opened seven years ago.
Store manager Lexa Smith said moving to a central location in the Vista was an ideal way for Carolina Couture to enhance its convenience for customers who couldn’t travel as easily to northeast Columbia. Women looking for that perfect dress for a special occasion can look through pieces they won’t find just anywhere.
“We do have some exclusive designers at this new store,” Smith said.
She named Essence of Australia, Matthew Christopher and Martina Liana as designers featured at Carolina Couture in the Vista.
People coming to shop for bridal or prom attire will have their own space to browse and try on selections. With more square footage at the downtown location, staff were able to split the store and create separate areas for brides and teens.
“They all have different needs,” Smith said.
The staff especially wants everyone to enjoy their visit to Carolina Couture. Smith thinks the open layout and non-traditional bridal showroom design will allow customers to be relaxed.
“We hope you can have fun and be yourself,” Smith said. “We always want to interact with our customers and get to know them better.”
Carolina Couture also is hiring additional sales associates for the Vista location.
Hours for the new store are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The Sandhills location is open additional hours from 12 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
